I was watching a video podcast of The Wire's Out of Character segment with Reg E Cathay, who plays Carcetti's political advisor on seasons 4 and 5 and he mentioned that his first big break in the business was on a show called Square One TV.

Now me and my brother spent many summers in front of the televion under no adult supervision, so thankfully Square One TV was good enough to hold our attention for a few hours a week. Being the determined Wire freak that I am, it only took me a few minutes to find a Square One clip with my man Norman.

So here are some links. Yeah, there are a lot and I kinda promised these yesterday, but the whole Spitzer debacle kinda sent me into a tizzy.

I know I turned a few people onto the show and I can say that their lives are better for it. And seriously, we need more girls watching this show. I only know of one girl who watches the show. WTF? I was at a party this weekend and another Wire fan said that it's the same reason girls don't like hip hop. Are you ladies gonna stand for that? Here's a weird news item -

R&B superstar Mary J. Blige has been named (along with 50 Cent, Timbaland, and--WTF?--Tyler Perry) by the Times Union of Albany as one of several celebrities who allegedly ordered steroids and other "performance enhancing" drugs through an online Orlando pharmacy. Blige also apparently had at least one shipment mailed to her under the name "Marlo Stanfield," a.k.a. the stoic drug kingpin on The Wire, which shows she at least knows how to have fun with prescription fraud. (Can't say the same for Fiddy, who chose "Michael Jordan." What are you, 8 years old?)

SEASON 4 DVD BOX SET

Looks like Season 4 of The Wire will be available on DVD Dec. 4th, according to Amazon.com. YEAH - Just in time for Christmas. I think most Wire fans are in dire need of a re-up. Hopefully the DVDs will hold us all over until season 5 starts in Oh Eight. Here's the cover. DOOOOOKIEEEEEEE!!!! Man, I want to hang out with those corner boys and play pranks on corrupt cops all summer long. Thanks to Keith for the scoop!

Lance Reddick Joins the Cast of Lost

Lance Reddick, who plays Lt. Cedric Daniels (seasons 1-4), has been added to the cast of Lost. I guess this gives me an excuse to start watching Lost and decide for myself which show on TV is the "Greatest" - so far the consensus amongst friends, critics and co-workers shows a three-way tie between The Wire, Lost, and Battlestar Galactica. via BWE.

Idolator (via The New Yorker) reported today that musician Steve Earle will perform the theme song for the 5th and final season of The Wire.

Remember, Steve also played a recovering drug addict in season one. Honestly, his speech during the narcotics anonyomous meeting was one of the highlights of the season for me and his re-appearance in season 4 was more than welcome.

For real, I thought he was an unknown actor who was a real-life recovering drug addict. Well, maybe Steve Earl is a recovering addict . . . I've yet to read his bio.

RANDY and CHEESE

I was browsing the wikipedia entries on The Wire and discovered that both Randy (from the schools) and Cheese (Prop Joe's crew) share the last name of Wagstaff. Now, I'm pretty sure that the show has never revealed the full names of either of these characters (maybe in quick passing) so it came as a bit of a revelation to me that both of these characters have the same surname. Is there a possible connection to be explored for Season 5 or is this purely coincidental?

Human Giant: Gbenga Akinnagbe Interview

Alright, I'm going to hit the ground running with this blog. Here's an interview with Gbenga Akkinagbe, who plays Chris Partlow on the show. Chris is Snoop's partner in crime, a general bad-ass extraordinaire/soldier in Marlo Stansfield's crew.

This interview was part of the 24 hour Human Giant Take Over thing that happened last weekend. I won't spoil anything from the interview, but I will say that it is AWESOME that the Human Giant (one of my favorite things going on right now - saw some live shows at the LA UCB Theater, digressing) gives some mad propers to the greatest show on TV right now.
