I was browsing the wikipedia entries on The Wire and discovered that both Randy (from the schools) and Cheese (Prop Joe's crew) share the last name of Wagstaff. Now, I'm pretty sure that the show has never revealed the full names of either of these characters (maybe in quick passing) so it came as a bit of a revelation to me that both of these characters have the same surname. Is there a possible connection to be explored for Season 5 or is this purely coincidental?

im 99% sure theyve used cheese's full name before as hes been a part of a couple investigations. if it wasnt said out loud, it was probably under his picture on the unit's board.
and as for the kid, it must have been said during some scene set in the school. im a few episodes into season 4, so i will let you know if i catch it.

i thought it was weird how season 3 begins focused on cheese and then he disappears for the rest of the season - am i forgetting a moment when that particular investigation is called off?
Your'e right, their full names have been mentioned several times - Cheese's during the Season 3 investigation and Randy's during his trip to the principal's office. The problem was that the names were scarcely used only in the context of formalities, so the coincident was not immediate (as opposed to surnames that are frequently mentioned such BARKSDALE, McNULTY, BUNK, GREGGS, etc.)
I would have to go back to Season 3 and see about the Cheese investigation.
